The Crucible

The Crucible

By Arthur Miller

The year is 1692. The place is Salem, Massachusetts. The subject is the horrifying story of the Salem witch hunts.

In the black and white world of the Puritans the fear of the unknown is ever-present. With the talk of witchcraft in neighbouring towns it doesn’t take much to turn a peaceful farming community into a frenzy of accusation and panic. When the world has gone mad it seems anyone can use the cry of witchery for personal gain, spite and vengeance.
Arthur Miller’s classic tale follows the turmoil of intolerance and fear surrounding the accusations of the young Abigail Williams as she spirals to do whatever she needs to get what she wants. The innocent will hang and blood will be spilt for “now the crazy little children are jangling the keys to the kingdom!” Is no one free of the accuser’s finger?
