Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards
Rosebud School of the Arts dispenses a variety of scholarships, awards, and bursaries to encourage superior academic achievement or assist students in need of financial aid.

are given in recognition of outstanding academic achievement. are given in recognition of individual distinction. are given in recognition of achievement or service to the school or community-related endeavors.
are awards based on financial need.


Students submit an application for awards in the first week of the Fall term. Awards are determined by the Education Team and distributed at the annual ROSAs (Recognizing Outstanding Student Achievement) banquet at the end of September. Rosebud School of the Arts reserves the right to make adjustments to the amount or designation of published awards as circumstances require.

Oliver Christensen Scholarship ($250)
For a student from a rural community. Application open to students in Certificate and Mentorship.

Gladys Dahlen Memorial Scholarships (2 for $300 or 1 for $600)
For outstanding achievement in the Hospitality area. Application open to students in Certificate and Mentorship.

The Emme Award for Music ($250)
For musical achievement. Application open to students in Certificate and Mentorship.

The Emme Award for Servanthood ($250)
For exemplary servanthood. Application open to students in Certificate and Mentorship.

The Anne Severns Scholarship ($250)
For exemplary servanthood. Application open to students in Mentorship.

Erickson Arts Administration Grant ($300)
For eagerness and sound strategy in implementing an upcoming entrepreneurial project in the arts. Application open to students in Mentorship.

Arnold & Clara Erickson Memorial Scholarship (2 for $350 or 1 for $700)
For marked improvement in a student's education. Application open to students in Mentorship.

LaVerne Erickson Medal (1 for $500)
For offering a unique perspective on the world, thinking outside the box, and evoking qualities of a dreamer or visionary; a capacity for motivating others and self – a self-starter; a facility with ideas and philosophies; the ability to articulate a vision for self and others; spiritual leadership and/or spiritual growth; a talent for connecting people with art through innovative marketing. No application is necessary for this award – students in Mentorship Level II and III will automatically be considered.

Tim Erickson Medal (1 for $500)
For outstanding diligence in tasks, exemplifying a strong work ethic; evidence of a servant’s heart and compassion; actively engaging in spiritual leadership and/or spiritual growth; demonstrated ability in mediating groups or counselling others; fostering belief and confidence among peers. No application is necessary for this award – students in Mentorship Level II and III will automatically be considered.

Greeno Memorial Scholarship (2 for $250 or 1 for $500)
For overall performance in all areas of study based on marks from the previous year. Application open to students in Mentorship.

Jim Jack Memorial Scholarship (2 for $400 or 1 for $800)
For excellence in a particular area of study. Application open to students in Mentorship.

Johnson Scholarships (2 for $250 or 1 for $500)
For demonstrated financial need. Application open to students in Certificate and Mentorship.

Kuhn Scholarship ($250)
For musical achievement. Application open to students in Certificate and Mentorship.

Dr. Laurence Olfert Scholarship ($250)
For demonstrated involvement in community or church theatre. Application open to students in Certificate.

Florence Mannix Pallesen Bursary ($250)
For a theatre arts student from the Standard/Hussar/Drumheller area or the Dickson/Spruceview area or another rural community. No application is necessary for this award – students from these areas in Certificate and Mentorship will automatically be considered.

McLean Family Scholarship ($500)
For excellence in one of the following areas of study: academic achievement, acting, directing, marketing, producing, stage management, design, or any aspect of technical theatre. Application open to students in Mentorship.

Performance Awards (TBA)
No application is necessary for this award – students in Mentorship Level II and III will automatically be considered based on merit, attitude, and assistance to the Performance Department in the operations of Rosebud Theatre.

Archie Plamondon Memorial Scholarship ($400)
For musical achievement. Application open to students in Certificate and Mentorship.

Frere Bursary ($650)
For recognized ability on the guitar, a disciplined practice, and a willingness to share the gift of music with family, friends, students, patrons, and the public at large.
Bursary is available for the purchase of a new guitar. Application open to students in Certificate, Mentorship, and Music Internship.

Howard & Hertha Pollock Memorial Scholarship ($250)
For musical achievement. Application open to students in Certificate and Mentorship.

Rose Cottage Bursary ($500)
For spiritual leadership and financial need. Application open to all students.

Rosebud Church Award ($250)
In recognition of the vital relationship between Rosebud School of the Arts and the Rosebud Church, this award is given to a student for confident and humble service to the Rosebud Church community. No application is necessary – Rosebud Church Board selects recipient.

Rosebud Country Inn Scholarship ($500)
For personal growth. Application open to students in Mentorship.

Rosebud School of the Arts Bursary (2 for $400 or 1 for $800)
For need and a cooperative community spirit. Application open to students in Mentorship.

Rosebud School of the Arts Merit Scholarship (2 for $750 or 1 for $1500)
For excellence in theatre arts and a cooperative community spirit. Application open to students in Certificate.

Rosebud School of the Arts Scholarships (2 for $750 or 1 for $1500)
For an all-round student in second or third year based on achievement, service, aptitude and need. No application is necessary for this award – students in Mentorship who have applied for other awards will automatically be considered.

W. M. "Bill" Slobodian Memorial Scholarship for Acting (2 for $1000)
For excellence in the field of acting, based on evaluations for acting classes, acting coaching, and performance of a role. Scholarships to be awarded to one male and one female student. Application open to students in Mentorship.

W.M. “Bill” Slobodian Memorial Scholarship for “Rookie of the Year” (1 for $500)
For a Mentorship Level I student who has best risen to his/her potential during the Certificate year, based on academic achievement, attitude, and peer interaction. Application open to graduates from the Certificate programme continuing their studies in Mentorship.

Student Showcase Scholarship (1 for $700)
For excellence in acting or voice coaching. Application open to students who participated in performance nights in 2006/07.

Gordon E. Taylor Scholarships (2 for $450 or 1 for $900)
For talent and skills and exemplary servanthood. Application open to students in Mentorship.

Roger Throness Memorial Scholarship ($350)
For the ability to do well in music and theatre. Application open to students in Mentorship.

Charles and Marguerite Watson Scholarship ($500)
For a student with a recognized disability or demonstrated difficulties in their background, who has developed and continues to develop a successful approach to their arts and performance training. Application open to students in Certificate and Mentorship.

Government Student Loans
Students are encouraged to begin the process of loan application immediately after their acceptance so they will be approved for funding well ahead of the tuition payment deadline.


Rosebud students are eligible for federal student loans and in some cases provincial student loans. Students need to apply for government-sponsored loans through their province of residence.

On-Campus Employment
During the run of a show at Rosebud Theatre, students have the opportunity to earn money in Guest Services and Hospitality. Education schedules are designed to accommodate these opportunities.

Due to the work load of our programmes, students are advised not to work more than 12 hours per week.

Paid positions are not guaranteed and work hours will vary from week to week depending upon the work available. Only students who show appropriate interest, skill, and work ethic will be offered hourly paid positions.

When performing in a show for credit, no student receives any pay. However, students in Mentorship Level II & III are eligible to receive a Performance Award from Rosebud Theatre. The criteria for receiving these scholarships are merit, work ethic, and value to the department.
